Maryland Police Investigate Fatal Wrong-Way Crash

MILFORD, Del.- Authorities say a 33-year-old Lincoln woman was killed when the car she was driving crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a tractor-trailer in Milford on Wednesday morning.

Delaware State Police said the crash happened on Canterbury Road when a northbound Toyota Prius crossed the double yellow line and hit a southbound tractor-trailer, police said. Troopers said that following impact, the Prius spun around and the driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the car. The car and the driver came to rest on the grass shoulder of the northbound lane.

The driver of the severely damaged tractor trailer could not steer, and the tractor-trailer crossed the northbound lane and went off the side of the road, where it struck several trees, police said.

The driver of the Prius was pronounced dead on the scene. Her identification is pending notification of her family.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, a 64-year-old Milford man, was not injured, according to police.

This collision remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Troop 3 Collision Reconstruction Unit. Anyone with information should contact Sgt. John Wheatley by calling 302-697-4454.
