CAMBRIDGE, Md. -A new warehouse facility is coming to Dorchester County and the Dorchester Chamber of Commerce says it's the first large warehouse built in the area in more than 20 years.
In approximately 18 months, the 90,000 square-foot warehouse facility will sit on Chesapeake Drive, just off of Woods Road, in Cambridge.
There will be two industrial buildings and construction is expected to start within the next month. The Commercial Loan Officer of Queenstown bank, Tim McCarter, tells WBOC what the building will be used for.
"Well the warehouse is for dry storage and high pallet storage. There's very little of that in the Mid-Atlantic area," says McCarter. "If you go look for storage area in Salisbury, Easton, or Cambridge there's very limited stock available. So this will open up a huge area of need."
The new warehouse will also open up a lot of job opportunities. Community members like say this is the perfect timing, especially coming out of the pandemic.
"I think that's good for the community since we had the pandemic. So a lot of people are out of work and that's just more opportunities for people to get a job," says Alex Clayton.
Until then, everyone is just waiting for the new facility to become a reality.
