SALISBURY, Md. - A Berlin man died following a Saturday afternoon crash in Salisbury.
Maryland State Police allegedly received a call from a concerned citizen after they passed a vehicle in a ditch on Old Ocean City Road. Several 911 calls followed after the first one.
The driver of the Toyota truck was 36-year-old William Joseph Hathaway of Berlin. William allegedly called his wife and said he was okay but that someone turned in front of him and he had to swerve into a ditch. She also allegedly heard him say that he was okay to concerned citizens that stopped to check on Williams.
There was no airbag deployment.
By the time EMS and troopers arrived, Williams was not breathing and slumped over the center console. He was immediately transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Immediate family has been notified.
Minimal damage was sustained by the Toyota, and it does not appear consistent with the driver suffering fatal injuries.
