Cambridge Man Charged With Murder in Woman's Beating Death

Dion D. Ennals

CAMBRIDGE, Md.- A Cambridge man is facing first-degree murder and related charges following accusations that he beat a woman and left her to die on a city street on Friday night.

Cambridge police said that shortly before 8 p.m., Dion D. Ennals, 31, arrived at the back door of the department on 8 Washington St. and stated, "I killed her." Officers then detained  Ennals. Police said that when officers attempted to find out exactly what happened and where the victim was that Ennals was talking about, he replied, "She is probably still laying there."

Ennals could not give an exact location so he was placed in a patrol vehicle, at which time he directed officers to the area of 22 Washington St., which is the roadway leading to the old  Phillips Packing House buildings.

It was at that time that officers found the victim lying in the roadway near the property of 22 Washington St. Police said the victim, identified as Roshanda S. Willis, 39, of Cambridge, was lying in a large pool of blood and had visible signs of severe injury to her head and face. Officers and EMS personnel that arrived on scene attempted to perform life-saving measures but Willis succumbed to her injuries.

During the ensuing investigation, detectives were able to locate surveillance footage of the incident. According to police, the video showed Ennals violently beat Willis for an extended period before leaving her lifeless body and walking toward the Cambridge Police Department. Ennals told detectives the reason for the incident was due to problems he and Willis were having in their relationship, police said.

Ennals has been charged with first- and second-degree murder and first- and second-degree assault. He was ordered held without bond.
