Fire Heavily Damages Thrift Shop in Marion Station

MARION STATION, Md.- Authorities have ruled as accidental a late Monday morning fire that caused a combined $180,000 in damage to a thrift shop in the Somerset County community of Marion Station. 

The Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office said it happened at around 11:30 a.m. at Marion Thrift Center, located at 28373 Crisfield Marion Road.  

It took the Marion Volunteer Fire Department approximately 20 minutes to get the blaze under control.

The fire caused an estimated $80,000 in damage to the structure and another $100,000 in damage to its contents. There were no reported injuries. 

Deputy state fire marshals said an employee discovered the fire, which was caused by unknown failure within a first floor furnace.
