OCEAN CITY, Md - An end of era for the Ocean City Boardwalk. The Beach Plaza hotel is permanently shutting its doors. The closure of founder Brice and Shirley Phillip's estate is what led to this decision. According to a statement issued Friday night, the Phillips Family has entered into a contract to sell the entire property.
"Through our over 50 years operating on the Boardwalk, we've loved getting to know all our guests who stayed with us year after year," said Steve Phillips, son of Brice and Shirley. "The Beach Plaza Hotel was a wonderful home base for thousands of beach vacations, weekend getaways, wedding and anniversary celebrations and reunions, and we're so grateful to have been a part of these unforgettable memories in Ocean City."
The oceanfront hotel at 13th St. on the boardwalk has been opened since 1967.
The Phillips family's original Ocean City restaurant location, Phillips Crab House, is gearing up for the 2021 season, with tentative plans to reopen for weekends starting in late spring. Existing reservations for 2021 at the Beach Plaza have been canceled and refunds are being issued now. Inquiries about those reservations can be made at info@beachplazaoc.com .
