SALISBURY, MD-The investigation continues in the accident that resulted in the deaths of two people near Safe Harbor Way, southwest of downtown Salisbury.
Lt. Catherine Medellin, with the Maryland Natural Resources Police, says they responded to a call where a boat struck a pier at 5292 Safe Harbor Way, shortly after 9 p.m.
Medellin says 6 people were involved in the crash, and the two that deceased have yet to be identified because next of kin has not been notified.
DNR says an autopsy has been conducted, but the results of it have not been released.
The Salisbury Fire Department alongside Allen and Fruitland were also on the scene.
"Evidently a homeowner heard a scream for help and dialed 911 and that's how we received the call," Darrin Scott, Deputy Fire Chief with Salisbury Fire Department said.
Scott says between all the fire departments, they had around twenty to thirty responders on the scene to help with the rescue.
"We have a new side scan sonar that detects bodies. We put it on the top of the water and it kind of floats under it a little bit and it detects bodies and within minutes we found the two subjects," he said.
Salisbury Fire Department says 3 patients were transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center, and they had about 4 to 6 divers in the water at one time.
A spokesperson with DNR says the boat involved was a 20 foot bayliner and she does not believe the people who died in that accident on the Wicomico River southwest of Salisbury were from Delmarva.
This investigation is ongoing.
