PITTSVILLE, Md-The Town of Pittsville held a public meeting tonight to provide neighbors with more clarity on their discolored water.
For months, some neighbors have experienced murky and yellow and brown water. Some neighbors say it looks like Coca-Cola or mud, others saying it looks like tea.
But the water is improving, neighbors say--but will it stay this way?
The town told WBOC a few weeks back that they believed the discoloration was the result of a broken part in their water system..
Town Manager Joe Mangini said, "We noticed the discoloration of the water, which is a build up of iron. Basically what was happening is that we had all at one time it seemed like equipment break down, which we had gone ahead and fixed."
But Mangini said when the water did not clear up, they brought in other technicians to figure out what was happening.
Now, the town has revealed that chemicals are the problem.
"The chemicals that we used to treat the water that we had purchased a few months ago, were not good. they were defective."
Neighbors like Rebecca Rittershofer said she's hoping for more answers--and can't wait to hear what the town has to say.
The meeting will be held at the Pittsville Fire Department.
"I mean I wouldn't even feed it to my dogs or my cats, they all get bottled water," Rittershofer said.
Crystal Churchill agrees, and says her son Weston does not like bathing in or drinking the water either.
"He's like 'Oh, it's Pittsville water mom, mom it's Pittsville water, that's generally the response with it," she said.
Crystal also plans to head to the meeting tonight to receive more answers with many neighbors who are fed up with mixed responses from the town.
"I think it's very very reasonable when you have yellow, brown murky water coming out, to question the town."
