Talbot County Public Schools Raising Money to Close Digital Divide for Students

EASTON, Md. - Education leaders in Talbot County are raising money to help connect students and their families with internet access, after having seen the impact of the pandemic on families during the school year.

Talbot County Public Schools, its education foundation board, and Easton Utilities, launched the Digital Divide Campaign in mid-June, aimed at raising $60,000 to help connect 300 families who are unable to afford the cost of internet service. So far, organizers say they've raised $25,000 in online donations, checks and pledges from more than 70 donors.

Organizers want to thank the generous donors for helping them reach a milestone, but they say there is still a long way to go.

“We have 200 more families to go,” said Rebecca Firth, Ph.D., Vice Chair of the Education Foundation in a statement, when the total reached $20,000.  “No child should be denied access to equitable learning opportunities in Talbot County. We want to see every family fully connected by the start of school at the end of August. Please help by contributing to the TCPSEF Digital Divide Fund.”
