SHARPTOWN, Md.- Organizers have announced the cancellation of the 2020 Sharptown Firemen's Carnival, which had been slated for July 30-Aug. 22.
"After a very long and careful consideration, we regret to inform you that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the uncertainty of the restrictions from the state and county, we have decided to cancel the Sharptown Firemen’s Carnival for the 2020 season," organizers said in a post on the carnival's Facebook page.
"The Carnival Committee and Department Membership have agreed that is in the best interest and safety of the public, along with the members and volunteers that assist with our operations.
"We have spent many hours going over the different options to be able to open, and while some restrictions have been lifted, at this time, there is not a viable path to the possibility of opening."
Organizers said they will be holding some fundraisers to help offset the loss from having to close bingo and the carnival due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
