BERLIN, Md.- The town of Berlin will close down a section of Main Street for the first time ever Wednesday afternoon as trick-or-treaters begin their visits to the downtown area.

The town will close Main Street from Tripoli to West streets at 4:30 p.m.

Washington Street from Main to West streets will also close, as is usually does on Halloween.

Town Administrator Laura Allen said keeping pedestrians safe is a top priority as more people continue to flock to Berlin for Halloween year after year.

"Last year, we had so many people walking downtown, and it really wasn't ideal," Allen said. "We had young kids walking around and parents chasing after them, and not all motorists were paying attention."

Allen said a very special Halloween surprise will happen at 6 p.m. in front of the Atlantic Hotel.
