Ellendale Fire Company Fire Truck Damage

GREENWOOD, DE - At least two fire companies are reporting damage to fire trucks after unknown suspects allegedly threw rocks at them as they responded to a fire in Greenwood last night. 

In a social media post Tuesday, the Ellendale Fire Company says they were called to a commercial fire in Greenwood Monday along with the Greenwood Volunteer FIre Company. On the way, two of the Ellendale Fire Company’s three trucks were damaged by people throwing rocks near Market Street and the Greenwood Post Office, according to Ellendale firefighters.

The Ellendale Fire Company says three other fire companies were also struck with rocks.

The Greenwood Volunteer Fire Company confirms the fire occurred on First Street, with six other fire stations responding, and that they are aware of the rocks thrown at the trucks. 

On Tuesday afternoon, the Bridgeville Volunteer Fire Company shared an image of their damaged fire engine after responding to the Greenwood fire. They, too, say they believe it was caused by thrown rocks.

Both Ellendale and Greenwood Fire Companies ask anyone with information to call the Greenwood Police Department at 302-349-4822.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal is investigating the fire according to responders. No injuries from either the rocks or the fire were reported.
