DEWEY BEACH, Del. - Dewey Beach town officials voted to ban the production and sale of marijuana during a council meeting Friday.
WBOC previously reported commissioners were considering the move, with officials citing the town’s image and family-friendly character as motivation for the ban.
Today, they voted unanimously to prohibit the growth and sale of marijuana, with the ordinance taking effect immediately.
Dewey Beach now joins Ocean City, Maryland in voting to ban on-site cannabis consumption. Other towns and cities weighing restrictions and bans of weed as it becomes legal across Delmarva include Oxford and St. Michaels, both in Maryland
Marijuana was legalized in Delaware in April. Recreational use in Maryland becomes officially legal on July 1st.
