LAUREL, Del. - The Delaware State Police say they are investigating after a man was hit and killed by a car in Laurel on Saturday, August 15. 

They say it happened around 9:20 p.m. A Toyota Camry was traveling southbound on Sussex Highway approaching Oasis Drive. At the same time, a pedestrian was walking westbound across the roadway when he was hit by the Toyota.

The pedestrian, 41-year-old Richard Housel, of Laurel, was taken to a hospital where he later died.

According to police, the driver of the Toyota, a 21-year-old man from Laurel, was not injured in the crash. The roadway was closed for about 3 hours while the crash was investigated and the scene was cleared.

The crash is under active investigation. DSP asks anyone with video footage or relevant information to contact Master Corporal K. Argo at 302-703-3264.
