Chester Vehicle and House Fire

CHESTER, MD - A home in Queen Anne’s County was heavily damaged by a fire that spread from a pickup truck Thursday.

The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office says the owner of a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado saw fire emanating from the truck’s engine while parked in the driveway of his home on Kirby Street in Chester on March 20 around 12:30 p.m. According to investigators, the fire then spread to the home due to the windy conditions.

In his attempts to extinguish the fire, the owner suffered non life-threatening smoke inhalation injuries and was taken to Anne Arundel Medical Center.

It took about one hour for 25 firefighters to extinguish the flames. The Fire Marshal estimates total monetary damages at $50,000.

An electrical failure in the truck’s engine compartment has been identified as the preliminary cause.
