DELMAR - A candlelight vigil will be held on Sunday evening for the Delmar High School student killed in an accident this weekend.

Doug Marshall, who is organizing the event, says it will take place behind the Delmar Walgreens on the corner of Route 54 and Old Stage Road.

Marshall asked anyone with firewood to bring it so a bonfire can take place.

Marshall says there will be guest speakers honoring the life of the student who was killed.

The community has shared countless well wishes, thoughts and prayers for the family of the victim and the Delmar community.

Delmar School District Superintendent Andrew O'Neal released a statement on Saturday about the student's passing.

It reads as follows:

"On behalf of the entire Delmar School District community, we extend our deepest condolences to the family of one of our dear students and to all those who are suffering due to his heartbreaking loss. We join the community in sharing our thoughts and prayers as we all endure the shock of this unspeakable tragedy. The entirety of our community is reeling, in pain, and in deep sorrow. We are grateful to our neighbors, as Wicomico County Public Schools and our nearby Delaware school districts offered additional counselors to be on hand to support our students and staff in supplement to the assistance we will be providing in the coming days. We are sure that further private and public efforts will be underway in short order to express the community’s outpouring of support for the family at this most difficult of times."

On Sunday, the school announced that all athletic events for Monday have been postponed, and practices may still be held depending on individual team needs.

WBOC will be at Sunday night's vigil, and we will bring you a full report on how the community comes together, tonight on WBOC News at 10 on FOX21, WBOC News at 11 and on WBOC News This Morning from 5-7 a.m. on Monday.
