OCEAN CITY, Md. - As the White Marlin Open enters its final two days, the tournament is making an impact beyond the leaderboard.
As of Thursday, Aug. 6, local fish processing business Catch-n-Carry says it has prepared nearly 1,000 pounds of fish donated by boats and anglers participating in this week's tournament.
The donations come after anglers spent long days on the water competing in the world’s largest billfish tournament, including fishing through rough conditions earlier in the week.
According to Catch-n-Carry, the donated catch is being distributed to local organizations and food pantries, including Diakonia, area churches, and the Maryland Food Bank. Organizers say the fish provides a high-quality source of protein for families in need across the region.
The effort comes during a busy stretch of the White Marlin Open. Weather contributed to a slower start to the week, but fishing activity has picked up considerably over the past several days.
Organizers thanked the anglers who chose to donate their catches, saying their contributions are making a difference in the community.
The White Marlin Open continues in Ocean City through Saturday, Aug. 8.
