WICOMICO COUNTY, Md. - Transportation officials say work is complete on a multi-million dollar project upgrading the US Route 13 Truck Weigh and Inspections Station near Delmar.
The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration says it completed $4.4 million worth of construction to modernize the weigh station, located between Salisbury and Delmar, Md.
Upgrades include:
- new truck height detectors and an LED signal display,
- modern deep pit scales and computer system,
- additional parking for inspections,
- upgraded traffic barriers, lighting and closed-circuit cameras,
- improved signage,
- installation of eyewash stations for safety,
- refurbished entrance gates and
- new office trailers with new modular buildings for inspections on both northbound and southbound sides.
MDOT says the weigh station property footprint was not enlarged, with all improvements fitting within the existing right-of-way.
Transportation officials say the US 13 Truck Weigh and Inspection Station is one of two remaining scale houses constructed in 1955. It has been operated by Maryland State Police since 1967.
