Serbia is preparing to mark the anniversary of a shooting shooting last year that killed 10 people. Mother Ninela Radicevic lost her 11-year-old daughter in the tragedy on May 3, 2023. Radicevic told The Associated in an interview before Friday's anniversary that “everyone rushed to forget” what happened and that she and other parents have been fighting to preserve the memory of their children and give their deaths some meaning. Many in Serbia believe more should have been done to make the society better in the wake of the school shooting and another one a day later outside Belgrade. A commemoration program is planned on Friday in Belgrade with art installations and discussions with experts.

A Tennessee judge is weighing whether to allow the release of a Nashville school shooter's writings after a two-day hearing concluded Wednesday. The judge seemed ready to agree with an attorney for Nashville police that the writings could be released once their investigation is officially closed. But the parents of children at the Covenant School added an extra twist to an already complicated case. They say they have gained legal ownership of the shooter's writings and now hold the copyright. None of the eight attorneys arguing the case claimed to be a copyright expert. The judge instructed them to provide more information on copyright law before she rules.

A Tennessee judge will soon decide whether the journals of a Nashville school shooter can be released to the public, after nearly a year of legal wrangling over who can participate in the case. Nashville police have said they will release the records once their investigation is complete. A group that includes news outlets and a state senator want the records released immediately. Meanwhile, a group of Covenant School parents that fought to be able to intervene in the case say the records should never be released. A hearing in the case began on Tuesday and continues on Wednesday.

Prosecutors in Virginia say that a criminal investigation into staff members at a school where a 6-year-old shot his teacher will continue. But Gwynn said his office would continue to investigate the January 2023 shooting. The administrator who was charged, Ebony Parker, has been accused of dismissing multiple warnings the boy had a gun in the hours before the shooting.
