The Ocean City Police Department is detailing what it calls a growing public safety challenge posed by large, social media-organized “takeover” events and is pushing for a coordinated statewide response.

Worcester County law enforcement leaders say stronger coordination, additional resources and improved social media monitoring will be key to preventing future teen takeover events in Ocean City and surrounding communities.

Denton Police say one person was arrested and two separate shooting incidents remain under investigation following a large unauthorized gathering Friday night that drew hundreds of people to town.

The Rehoboth Beach Police Department has announced it is taking steps to prepare for a another planned gathering, or “takeover” event, promoted on social media. 

Several people were arrested during a boardwalk "takeover" event, and police are searching for the organizers.
