UPDATE: Protesters Have Begun Marching Up Route 13, Gatherings Continue in Dover over George Floyd Death

Protesters demonstrating over the death of George Floyd gather outside Legislative Hall in Dover.

DOVER, Del. --- More than two hundred people on Sunday gathered in Dover to protest over the death of George Floyd.

As of 7 p.m., protesters have begun marching up Route 13 causing parts of the road to be closed.

Floyd's death after pleading for air as a white police officer in Minneapolis kneeled on his neck during an arrest has prompted protests across the country, including in Delaware. The officer has since been charged third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.

On Saturday night protesters took to the streets in Wilmington, where peaceful demonstration during the day that shut down Interstate 95 for a time was followed by vandalism and looting in the evening hours.

Organizers of Sunday's event have called for peaceful protest as they gathered outside both the Dover Police Department and Legislative Hall.

Protests have emerged in cities and towns across the country with some involving clashes between demonstrators and law enforcement.
