FEDERALSBURG, Md.- Authorities say they have arrested a Federalsburg woman accused of intentionally setting her house on fire for the purpose of committing insurance fraud.
The Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office said the fire was reported shortly after 5 a.m. June 15, 2020, at a home located at 3835 Seippes Road.
The house was destroyed and caused an estimated $215,000 in damages.
Deputy state fire marshals said the owner, 45-year-old Caitlin Hudson, was quickly identified as a suspect in the investigation, which revealed she intended to make a fraudulent insurance claim after the fire.
A Caroline County grand jury indicted Hudson on five charges, including first-degree arson, first-degree malicious burning, malicious burning with the Intent to Defraud, False Statements to Insurance and Reckless Endangerment.
The investigation revealed Hudson may have been residing in Delaware after the fire occurred. The Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office assisted Maryland state fire marshals in locating Hudson.
On Dec. 14, Hudson was located off of McCabe Road in Selbyville, Delaware. She was taken into custody without incident and transported to Troop 4. She was processed and quickly seen before a judge, which allowed extradition to Maryland. Subsequently, Hudson was transferred to Caroline County Detention in Denton, where she is currently being held.
If convicted, Hudson faces up to 60 years of imprisonment and/or $75,000 in fines.
