Jeffrey Giles Named New Rehoboth Beach Patrol Captain

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del.- Rehoboth Beach Patrol has new leadership.

On Thursday evening, the city announced Jeffrey Giles as the new Beach Patrol Captain. Giles is a 30 year veteran of the Delaware State Police. In that role, he also served on the Special Olympics' Polar Bear Plunge safety committee--the annual event that takes place in Rehoboth Beach.

"Mr. Giles is already familiar with the City of Rehoboth Beach," says Rehoboth Beach Police Chief Keith Banks. "Besides being familiar with our events, such as the Special Olympics, he served five summers as a member of the Rehoboth Beach Patrol, including as a lieutenant, before he was with the State Police. As a longtime professional in law enforcement, he brings extensive background in Homeland Security, emergency management, and training and education, which supports our goal in maintaining our community as a safe and welcoming one."

Previous Beach Patrol Captain Kent Buckson resigned in December after 34 years with the lifeguards. City Manager Sharon Lynn says Giles' knowledge and experience make him a great asset to the team. While at DSP, Giles supervised the Maritime and Scuba units.

For Giles, the job is a dream come true.

"I am truly honored to be chosen for this role," Giles says. "I feel as if I have come full circle. The Beach Patrol meant so much to me, and helped me in my career to fulfill my dreams. Now, it is my turn to give back."

Giles thanked his wife and two daughters for their support. He begins his new role on February 1st.
