County Council to Reconsider Controversial Trappe Housing Development

TRAPPE, Md. - The Lakeside at Trappe development has been in the works since 2006.

The development is slated to bring 2,500 homes to the over 800 acres located just east of Route 50 in the town of Trappe.

Construction equipment is now on the ground for the early stages of the project.

Len Foxwell lives in Talbot County and is against the development.

"We know better than this. We know what uncontrolled sprawl development is doing to our planet, our economy and our daily life."

Amid mounting public pressure, Talbot County Councilman Pete Lesher tells WBOC he recently put forth a proposal to rescind the water and sewer plan.

Neighbors are concerned the sewer plan, which would spray over 500,000 gallons of treated sewage onto nearby crops could contaminate their community.

"While treated sewage can actually have some agricultural benefits, it works if you're actually trying to grow crops. That is not the priority here," Foxwell said.

The Maryland Department of the Environment says the permit would include ground water monitoring tables, which would include points along the nearby Miles Creek.

We reached out to Rauch Inc., the developer and the Town of Trappe. Neither responded to our request for comment.

The County Council will meet again on October 12 to consider rescinding the development's water and sewer plan.
