DOVER, Del.- Dover police on Tuesday arrested a 16-year-old Dover High School student after discovering that he was in possession of a gun on campus.
Police said that at at around 12:20 p.m. Tuesday, information was received at the school and communicated to the School Resource Officer that the student may be in possession of a firearm. At 12:20 p.m., the school was placed on a lockdown so the student could be located and the situation placed under control to ensure the safety of students and staff. By 12:29 p.m., the student was taken into custody without incident and the school lifted the lockdown.
During a search of the student by the School Resource Officer, a firearm was located on the student’s person. Police said investigating officers have found no evidence to suggest that the suspect intended or made threats to use the firearm.
The student was transported back to the Dover Police Department where he will be charged with the following offenses:
- Possession of a Firearm by Person Prohibited (Juvenile)
- Carry Concealed Deadly Weapon
- Possession of a Weapon in a Safe School Zone
The Dover Police Department is not releasing the identity of the student per department policy.
