Welcome to the weekend!
If this weekend feels like déjà vu, we'll you're not imagining things, as it's going to be a weekend pretty much identical to the last few on Delmarva.
High pressure will continue to dominate weather on Saturday, which will be pleasant, with mostly sunny skies and mild afternoon highs that will reach the mid to upper 50s.
But as that high slides to the east, light winds will shift to the south, which will start to increase humidity levels in the atmosphere, resulting in gradually increasing clouds Saturday night into Sunday morning.
These clouds will come ahead of the next weather-maker, yup, another coastal storm that will bring heavy rain and gusty winds.
As a deepening trough approaches from the west, low pressure will spin up along the coast.
Sunday will start off mostly cloudy, but showers will likely develop by lunchtime, becoming more widespread and developing into a windswept rain by mid to late afternoon.
As with last week's storm, the main threats will come from the heavy rain, which could cause localized flooding in poorly drained areas, and the gusty winds, which could gust to 40 mph or more at times, causing some downed tree limbs and isolated power outages. One thing that is different about this storm is that it looks to track a little farther west than last week's storm, so it looks like the heaviest of the rain will fall west of the Chesapeake Bay. However, all of Delmarva should expect at least 1 to 3 inches of rain, with isolated higher amounts possible.
Gusty rain will continue into Monday morning before the rain starts to taper off by midday. Monday will be one of those days where the high temperature (in the upper 50s) will be in the morning as gusty northwest winds cause temperatures to drop throughout the day.
By Tuesday, high pressure builds back in, but it will be much colder and continued windy. A few snow flurries are not out of the question!
Then the rest of the week will be mostly sunny with temperatures near or below normal.
The long-term 8-14 day outlook has temperatures averaging above normal and precipitation slightly above normal for December 23 - December 29.
