Today: We start with low clouds and fog in spots this morning. This will give way to sunshine by the afternoon. Highs: 75-82. Winds: SW 5-15 mph.
Tonight: Mostly clear to partly cloudy. Lows: 57-64. Winds: S 5-10 mph.
Thursday: Partly to mostly sunny. Highs: 80-86. Winds: S 5-15 mph.
Thursday Night: Partly cloudy. Lows: 65-70. Winds: SW 5-15 mph.
Friday: Partly to mostly sunny with the chance of a few spotty showers / storm possible in the evening hours. Highs: 82-88. Winds: SW 5-20+ mph.
Saturday: Partly to mostly cloudy and a bit breezy at times. Highs: 70-77. Winds: NE-E 5-20+ mph.
High pressure is in control of the forecast over the next couple of days leading to sunshine and warmer temperatures as the ridge will be sitting out to our east starting later this afternoon. The wind starts to turn out of the south and southwest and leads to highs today into the 70s and 80s. A quiet night is expected overnight as temperatures fall again into the 50s and 60s and it wouldn’t shock me if we wake up to a little low cloud or fog again as we start Thursday morning.
Thursday will be a warmer day with temperatures in the 80s across Delmarva (the beaches will be cooler). The breeze will start to pick up out of the south and southwest and will actually help to drive temperatures up a little bit warmer for Friday with highs into the mid to upper 80s in places. We will be watching a could front arrive late on Friday that could bring some scattered showers and even a thunderstorm is not out of the question. The front looks to be moisture starved, so there are some question marks about how robust this chance will be on Friday evening into Friday night.
The weekend forecast has some questions that we will need to solve over the next few days. A big ridge of high pressure will be diving in from Canada and trying to clear the front before we wake up on Saturday. There are hints that this will be run into by a new area of low pressure trying to develop down toward the Carolinas (this sounds really familiar). I think Saturday will be a dry day with a mix of sun and clouds with temperatures in the 70s (around 70 at the beach) with the wind off the Atlantic. Sunday has the question mark because there is this thought that with the front stalled to our south we could see some moisture run the front and into the southern part of our area as we wake up in the morning hours. Other thoughts bring the low close, but no cigar as the massive ridge of high pressure arrives to suppress all the moisture to our south and should keep us dry for Sunday. Time will tell and we will fine tune this part of the forecast.
The high settles right over the top of the area for next week bringing with it our first real shot of fall. By real shot of fall, I think we will have some temperatures next week in the 60s for highs and our coolest communities falling into the 30s.
