FORECAST DISCUSSION
Normal high: 69°F. Normal low: 47°F.
High pressure is located just off the East Coast, making for another pleasant day on Delmarva.
With the high to the east, we have light winds from the southeast, which has increased humidity over the peninsula. Mainly clear skies are expected Thursday night, and the winds are expected to go calm, which means areas of fog could develop over Delmarva, mainly after midnight.
Areas of fog could slow down your Friday morning commute a little bit, but the fog should burn off quickly under mostly sunny skies to start the day.
A storm system is becoming organized in the Mid-Mississippi Valley, and as it moves east, a warm front will slide up the East Coast on Friday. This will mean increasing clouds Friday afternoon, with a chance for a few showers Friday evening, but not a washout expected.
As the storm system passes well to our north, it will swing a cold front across the Mid-Atlantic on Saturday, bringing our next round of rain. Delmarva will see scattered showers on-and-off throughout the day. There is also a possibility for a few rumbles of thunder throughout the day, but at this time severe thunderstorms are not anticipated. However, any thundershowers could have some downpours and gusty winds.
High pressure builds back in for Sunday, with cooler temperatures that will rise back into the 70s by Monday and Tuesday under mostly sunny skies.
Longer-range guidance is suggesting an unsettled second half of next week, with scattered showers and thunder late Wednesday through next weekend.
In the long range, temperatures are expected to average above normal, and precipitation above normal for May 1 - May 7.
