***Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 10 p.m. Tuesday***

Severe thunderstorm threats have returned to Delmarva, this time for an extended period of two days.

After a warm front lifted north across Delmarva Tuesday morning, bringing a round of thunderstorms, lots of warm and humid air has overspread Delmarva.

Ahead of a cold front, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop Tuesday evening. These storms will have the potential to be strong to severe with all types of severe weather possible, including damaging wind gusts, hail, and flooding. A few tornadoes also can't be ruled out. Nearly all of Delmarva is under a Level 3 "Enhanced" threat for severe thunderstorms (on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the highest threat). Scattered thunderstorms will continue through the overnight into Wednesday.

That cold front is not going to clear out of our area quickly, and will linger into Wednesday, when we will continue to see a threat of widespread scattered showers and thunderstorms, with all types of severe weather again possible. All of Delmarva is under a Level 2 "Slight" threat for severe weather.

In addition to the severe weather threat, these storms will be efficient rain producers, and flash flooding could occur where the heaviest downpours fall. Up to 5" of rain could fall in a few areas by the end of the day Wednesday.

Things calm down Thursday and Friday as skies turn mostly sunny with comfortable afternoon highs in the low 80s.

Isolated thunderstorm chances could return this weekend, especially over southern parts of the peninsula.

In the Tropics: Tropical Storm "Bertha" is slowly tracking west along the Gulf Coast. It is expected to bring gusty winds, high surf, and heavy rain from the Florida Panhandle to southeast Texas. The storm is not a threat to Delmarva at this time.
