FORECAST DISCUSSION
Normal high: 77°F. Normal low: 57°F.
Weather conditions over Delmarva will slowly improve Sunday as Tropical Depression "Ophelia" continues to weaken.
"Ophelia" is centered over eastern Virginia, and it is forecast to turn northeast and cross Delmarva today.
However, the worst of the storm is over, and for Sunday we're mainly expecting mostly cloudy skies with scattered breezy showers as winds shift to a southwesterly direction.
The primary lingering threat from "Ophelia" is for tidal flooding along the Chesapeake Bay. Fortunately, the moon is in a first quarter phase, which will mitigate the flooding threat. Dorchester, southwestern Wicomico, Somerset, and parts of Accomack Counties will see tidal inundation during the next few high tide cycles.
The next high tides are:
Onancock: 7:35 a.m. Sunday and 8:15 p.m. Sunday
Crisfield: 8:28 a.m. Sunday and 9:12 p.m. Sunday
Whitehaven: 10:06 a.m Sunday and 10:46 p.m. Sunday
Cambridge: 11:23 a.m. Sunday and 12:37 a.m. Monday
Remnants of "Ophelia" will move east over the Atlantic and linger for a day or two before dissipating. This, coupled with a few disturbances approaching from the west will keep mostly cloudy skies with scattered showers in the forecast through at least Tuesday.
We'll see a little bit of a break from wet weather possibly on Wednesday and Thursday, before some showers possible Friday.
High temperatures in the coming week will tend to run about 5 degrees below normal.
In the tropics...
Tropical Storm "Philippe" has been christened in the Central Atlantic. "Philippe" is forecast to only slowly strengthen as it turns farther into the Atlantic. This storm ins not an immediate threat to land.
A tropical wave near the Cape Verde Islands has a low, 30 percent chance of development in the next seven days.
The long-term 8-14 day outlook has temperatures averaging above normal and precipitation slightly below normal for October 1 - October 7.
