Today: Partly to mostly sunny with scattered showers and thunderstorms by the afternoon and evening hours. Some of these storms will pack a punch. Highs: 88-94 (Beaches: 80-90). Winds: S-SW 10-25+ mph.
Tonight: Scattered showers and storms continue throughout the night. Windy. Lows: 70-75. Winds: SW 15-30+ mph.
Wednesday: Partly cloudy with on and off showers and storms. Some of these storms will pack a punch. Highs: 83-88 (Beaches: 80-88). Winds: SW-W10-25+ mph.
Wednesday Night: Showers and storms linger early in the night before slowly settling down for most of us by the morning hours. Lows: 62-69. Winds: W 10-20+ mph.
Thursday: A few lingering showers across southern Delmarva early morning. Otherwise, it will be partly to mostly sunny and cooler with lower humidity. Highs: 74-83. Winds: N-NE 5-20+ mph.
Friday: Partly to mostly sunny. Highs: 75-85. Winds: NE-E 5-20+ mph.
For today we will see temperatures soar quickly up into the 80s and 90s as the warmer air settles in ahead of a cold front that will slowly start to dive into the region by Tuesday afternoon and Tuesday evening with rounds of showers and thunderstorms. As the warm front sneaks across Delmarva early this morning, we could see the first batch of thunderstorms push through the area. These should be your garden variety storms with some heavy rain and lots of light night. In the early afternoon, we will start watching for the development of some isolated cells with a lot of shear in the atmosphere. We can’t rule out the chance of an isolated tornado tomorrow afternoon and evening with these first storms that develop ahead of the clusters / lines of storms that will develop later in the afternoon. As we progress into Tuesday evening, a few clusters and lines of thunderstorms from the northwest will drive into the area. This will bring with it the possibility of strong and gusty winds, very heavy rain, and lightning. I ask you to be weather aware throughout the day on Tuesday.
Wednesday will have that front basically stalled out over the region and keeping things on the unsettled side with scattered showers and thunderstorms possible for much of the day. I don’t think these storms will have the bite to them that we will probably see on Tuesday, but they still could pack a punch with some strong and gusty winds, heavy rain, and lightning. The other thing we will need to watch for is the possibility of flash flooding as we will see the same spots see several thunderstorms dumping very heavy rain in a short period of time over several storms. The front will slowly clear Delmarva by Wednesday night with a clearing trend beginning as we head into the start of the Delaware State Fair on Thursday. This front looks to linger for the early part of Thursday across far southern Delmarva as we could wake up to some rain showers before it continues to slowly push south into Hampton Roads and Eastern NC.
The humidity will drop behind the front and lead to some cooler air arriving for the later in the week with highs in the 80s by Thursday and Friday with morning temperatures on Friday morning may be in the 50s and 60s again. We stay dry at the moment for the weekend with a mix of sun and clouds both on Saturday and Sunday with highs in the 80s both days. I am watching the remnants of Bertha and how she is handled by the upper-level pattern.
There are some hints that the system could use the front as train tracks to bring moisture near us on Saturday…so stay tuned there. Watching another front to bring chances for showers and storms to start off early next week.
