FORECAST DISCUSSION

Normal high: 74°F. Normal low: 52°F.

As low pressure continues to slowly leave the Lower Mississippi Valley, we continue to have persistent southerly flow up the Eastern Seaboard, bringing mild, humid air to Delmarva.

Tuesday evening, we'll have periods of on-and-off rain that could come with some embedded thunderstorms. Any thunderstorms could have heavy downpours and gusty winds. A few severe storms are possible for damaging winds and a brief tornado on the Lower Eastern Shore and over Accomack County.

Areas of fog are also likely to develop overnight through the Wednesday morning commute.

We stay unsettled through the rest of the week as a surface low develops off the East Coast. This will bring scattered showers and thunderstorms to Delmarva on Wednesday, with a chance that a few storms could become severe for damaging winds and hail Wednesday afternoon and evening.

The low passes to our north Thursday as an impulse of energy on the back side of the low brings a reinforcing shot of instability that will keep scattered showers and thunder in the forecast, mainly Thursday afternoon and evening.

A frontal boundary approaches on Friday. Under an upper ridge, temperatures over Delmarva will climb well into the 80s Friday and Saturday (of course, a little cooler at the coast). With such warm air over Delmarva, the front could trigger some pop-up showers and thunderstorms, mainly in the afternoon and evening Friday and Saturday.

Quiet, but warm, weather is in the forecast for Sunday, which is shaping up to be the better day of the weekend.

In the long range, temperatures are expected to average below normal, and precipitation above normal for May 20 - May 26.
