MILTON, Del. - A Sussex County man is in shock after someone vandalized a school bus he owns.
Juan Saez is an entrepreneur, and one of his projects is a party bus business, where he'll take converted buses and drive large groups around to events like weddings or homecomings. Saez was in the process of renovating an old school bus into a party bus. Now, that school bus has been damaged.
Some letters, an obscene image and the phrase "vatos locos" appear to be spray painted on the bus. Saez says it happened sometime between 10:30 PM last night and 7:30 AM this morning. He recalled the moment he realized what happened, noting the timing of the vandalism.
"I was coming from the highway and I looked over at my bus and I saw black writing on it," he said. "I immediately thought, 'Oh my God, Halloween today, Mischief Night last night'...and I said 'Oh my gosh, I think someone's spray painted the side of my bus."
Saez says he did not capture the incident on security cameras, but hopes a nearby business did. He said the party buses are more than a business for him-- they're a way to give back. For example, Saez recently used one of the buses to take a bunch of high schoolers to Cape Henlopen High School's homecoming free of charge. With that knowledge, he says the vandalism was extra painful.
"It's kinda hurtful to know that as much as you try to do for your community, that someone does this to you," he told WBOC.
Saez says he is considering putting up a reward for information related to the vandalism.
