DENTON, Del. - A fight between three young people in Denton has led to a teenager being charged as an adult with attempted murder.
Denton Police say they were called to the 1600 block of Blue Heron Drive in the Mallard Landing community on Monday for a reported stabbing. When officers arrived, they said 20-year-old DeShaun Williams of Denton was sitting on the sidewalk with multiple stab wounds to his back, stomach and thigh. Police immediately gave first aid on the scene.
According to police, responding officers were able to identify the suspect as 17-year-old Michael Walker of Ridgely and locate him at the scene. He was taken into custody without incident.
Police investigation revealed Williams and 18-year-old Kirby Olson of Denton had been involved in a physical fight stemming from an ongoing issue. Police said Olson was trying to hit Williams with a bat, and it broke a window of Williams' car.
According to police, the men were still fighting when Walker showed up and also got involved. At some point during the fight, police said Walker got a knife and stabbed Williams, despite community members' attempt to break up the fight before that.
Williams was treated by Caroline County EMS on the scene and then taken to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford, rather than PRMC in Salisbury, due to the severity of his injuries. Police say he is expected to recover.
The Caroline County State's Attorney decided Walker should be charged as an adult in the incident. He was charged with first and second-degree attempted murder, reckless endangerment, first and second-degree assault, riot and carrying a dangerous, concealed weapon with intent to injure. According to police, Walker is being held at the Lower Eastern Shore Center without bail.
Police say other charges are expected as the investigation continues.
