Del. Inmate Dies at Hospital; Death an Apparent Suicide

Sussex Correctional Institution

DOVER, Del.- Delaware prison officials say a 48-year-old inmate has died in an apparent suicide.

Officials with the Department of Correction said Jack Cebenka of Milton, who was being held at Sussex Correctional Institution in Georgetown, died Saturday.

Officials said Cebenka had been in custody since Sept. 3, detained on theft and conspiracy charges out of Pennsylvania.

According to officials, Cebenka was alone in a single-occupant cell on Saturday at the time of the apparent suicide. No foul play is suspected, officials said.

Prison staff administered CPR while awaiting paramedics, but Cebenka was pronounced dead en route to Beebe Hospital on Saturday morning.

Cebenka’s body has been turned over to the State Division of Forensic Science, as is standard procedure. Delaware State Police are investigating.
