DOVER, Del.- One man was arrested on drug distribution charges and his driver charged with numerous traffic offenses following a high speed pursuit through Dover on Tuesday, according to police.
Dover police said Agmere Matthews, 22, of Dover, was the passenger in a vehicle driven by Anthony Rollins, 21, of Milford, around 7:30 p.m. on July 22. After authorities attempted to stop the car for a traffic violation on Route 13 at East Water Street, police said Rollins accelerated in an attempt to flee and nearly struck a Dover police officer.
Police said that during the ensuing pursuit, Matthews threw a bag containing a white, rock-like substance, from the vehicle. Tests would later reveal the substance was crack cocaine, investigators said.
Following the pursuit, both suspects were apprehended, and taken into custody without incident.
Matthews has been charged with possession with intent to deliver cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and violation of probation. Rollins faces charges of first-degree reckless endangering, disregarding a police officer signal, reckless driving, driving without a license, unreasonable speed, and driving while suspended or revoked.
Both suspects were committed to the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in default of bond.
