HARTLY, Del. - One person has died following a car crash that happened Thursday afternoon on SR 8 in Hartly, Delaware, according to police.
Master Corporal Gary Fournier with the Delaware State Police said Thursday evening that the accident happened just before 3 p.m. Thursday as 52-year-old Michael H. Wallace, of Marydel, Delaware, was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck westbound on Halltown Road (SR8) just east of Crystal Road. According to Fournier, Wallace was attempting to negotiate a left curve when he lost control of his pick-up truck and traveled off the south side of the roadway. The truck first struck a mailbox then hit a tree on the driver's side door, before coming to an abrupt stop, Fournier said.
Michael Wallace, who was not properly restrained, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident. Fournier said alcohol may have been a contributing factor in this case.
SR8 was closed between Crystal Road and Brittney Lane for approximately three and a half hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
