Popular Neck District General Store Reopens Just Weeks After Closing

CAMBRIDGE, Md.-  If you drive due west of Cambridge, after a couple of miles you start to cross over into what is called the Neck District, and a few weeks ago that area lost its general store.

The good news is, it wasn't closed for long.  Laura Wingfield has leased and reopened the store, saving the locals from driving fifteen minutes or more for any essentials they may need.  Locals are thrilled that the store is back open, and the new manager says the store will be particularly useful in a few months.

"The same as everybody else down here, I didn't want the store to close.  We need it too much.  Especially coming up in the wintertime.  Some people have 15 to 20 miles to drive to town, and if you just need milk, bread, or eggs, that's a long way to drive," said Wingfield.

If all goes well, Wingfield will have the option to buy the store in a year.
