Maryland State Police Who Served in Military Recognized

OCEAN CITY, Md. - A preliminary examination shows a man who died after being arrested on drug charges in Ocean City early Sunday morning did not have external injuries but may have ingested cocaine, police said Monday.

Complete results of 37-year-old Jerry Weston's autopsy are pending, but Maryland State Police say the initial post-mortem revealed no sign of external trauma that would have caused Weston's death. According to police, pathologists did find pieces of latex and a substance believed to be cocaine in Weston’s digestive tract, which is consistent with what he told police and medical personnel while he was in distress.

Doctors at the office of the chief medical examiner have ordered additional tests, including toxicology screenings, as part of the autopsy. Those results are pending and could take up to a month or more to obtain. For that reason, police have not yet determined Weston’s cause and manner of death.

The Ocean City Police Department requested the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit investigate Weston's death.
