SALISBURY, Md. - It was another miserable day on Delmarva. But you don't have to tell the student athletes of Wicomico County- fall sports practices started today. Wicomico High School football player Darius Foreman says he and the team are feeling the heat.
"Yeah it’s kind of hot out for real it’s kind of humid and stuff but we’re we gonna do good we’ll be all good because we got plenty of water and stuff," said Foreman.
Teammate Malachi Mazzetti agrees.
"Yeah makes it fun but fighting through it no big deal."
Because today is a day they've been waiting for, says Parkside football coach Brendan Riley.
"It’s been ah like we talked about this morning with the kids. It’s been two years really since they’ve experienced a fall preparatory time and seeing them all is pretty special," said Riley. So has Mazzetti.
"Yeah I’ve been waiting for about two years for it," said Mazzetti.
Wicomico High school cross county coach Stosh Schtierman said the timing of starting practices and the heat could not be worse.
"Fortunately, as always it came now. Or I should say unfortunately it came now but I think we’re ready for it," said Schtierman
When the heat gets bad, Wicomico High school coach Isaiah Taylor tries to keep things in perspective.
"It was certainly a lot colder, that’s what I keep reminding the guys today. Whenever they’re getting too hot I’m like, remember your toes were frozen?' " said Taylor.
While everyone including these student athletes have to wear masks when they're in the classroom, they do not have to wear one when they're practicing.
