MILFORD, Del. - Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal car crash that claimed the life of 55-year-old Gary Ingram, son of former Gov. Ruth Ann Minner.
Police say the accident happened Friday, September 23 around 6:39 p.m. when Ingram was driving southbound on Bay Rd. (US 113) just south of Cicada Lane. According to DSP, for an unknown reason, Ingram's tow truck gradually traveled off the west edge of the roadway where the right side mirror and right corner of the flatbed hit a steel sign. Authorities say the truck then continued traveling southbound, eventually hitting a group of trees before stopping.
Police say Ingram was properly restrained at the time of the crash. He was treated at the scene by Kent County Paramedics and then brought to the Milford Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The Associated Press reports that Ingram was the youngest of the Minner's three sons. The former governor said her son lived next to her on the family's farm in Milford with his wife and children.
DSP are still investigating the crash but said neither alcohol nor drugs appear to be a factor.
Bay Rd. was closed for about two and a half hours until the crash scene was cleared
