BETHANY BEACH, Del.- Authorities continue to investigate a late Wednesday night fire in Bethany Beach that caused approximately $750,000 in damage to a three-story single family home and two neighboring residences.
The fire happened at 11:15 p.m. on the 29000 block of Cove Way, Cotton Patch Hills, according to the Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office.
Investigators said firefighters from the Bethany Beach Volunteer Fire Company arrived on scene to find heavy fire in the garage with extension into the main residence. The Bethany Beach Volunteer Fire Company, assisted by the Millville, Roxanna, Frankford and Rehoboth Beach volunteer fire companies, responded on the initial dispatch.
There were no reported injuries. The fire caused heavy damage to the home and also resulted in exposure damage to two adjacent homes. Investigators determined the fire started in the area of the garage and its cause is still under investigation. Authorities said the investigation continues with no indication of a suspicious fire at this time.
Craig and Karen Fuller, a Virginia couple, lived in the home. Fuller said he and his wife did not know their home was on fire until a neighbor told them.
"A neighbor came pounding on our front door," Fuller said. "I thought something had happened."
Fuller said he went outside of his home and noticed flames quickly spreading up the wall of their garage.
"I got a hose, but it was apparent I couldn't do anything about that," said Fuller, who then rushed to the front yard to see if Karen made it out safely. Fortunately, she was OK.
The victims of the fire are being housed by neighbors, investigators said.
