OCEAN CITY, Md. (WBOC/AP)- Maryland Natural Resources Police have released the name of a 9-year-old boy killed when he was hit by a boat's propeller in Ocean City on Wednesday afternoon.

NRP spokeswoman Candy Thomson on Thursday identified the boy killed as Kaden Frederick of Howell, New Jersey.

Thomson said 17 people were on the rented pontoon boat in Sinepuxent Bay near Ocean City at around 3 p.m. Wednesday. She said Kaden was one of four people sitting with their legs dangling from the front of the boat as it moved, which is illegal in Maryland.

Thomson said Kaden fell, the operator couldn't stop and the propeller hit the boy. Emergency crews couldn't resuscitate the child, according to Thomson.

Thomson says Kaden was the 12th person killed while boating this year in Maryland, one of four this week.
