GEORGETOWN, DE - The Delaware State Police say a teacher has been arrested after a 3-year-old student with a developmental delay was allegedly left alone for hours at a playground at Howard T. Ennis School in Georgetown.
According to police, the teacher, a 22 year-old from Dagsboro, was attempting to line her class up to exit the playground after recess on September 18th. Several of the children ran from the line and the teacher, police say, including the 3-year-old. The child then reportedly hid under playground equipment and stayed there after the teacher had brought the other students inside.
Several hours later, according to police, the child’s mother called the school saying the child had not come off the school bus home. The student was then located.
On September 27th, the police arrested the teacher on misdemeanor charges of endangering the welfare of a child. The teacher was released on her own recognizance, Delaware State Police say.
