ONLEY, VA - The Virginia State Police (VSP) have confirmed an ambulance carrying a patient collided with a tractor-trailer Tuesday evening on Route 13 in Accomack County.

VSP says the crash involved a Bloxom, VA ambulance and a Perdue truck.

According to police, the Perdue tractor-trailer was stopped in the left lane at a red light on Route 13 southbound near Market Street in Onley just before 5 p.m. on April 8. The Bloxom ambulance, with its sirens activated and carrying a patient to a nearby hospital, attempted to go around the tractor-trailer, according to police. Police say the ambulance then struck the tractor-trailer, causing the ambulance to overturn.

VSP says the driver of the ambulance and his wife, a passenger, were taken to TidalHealth in Maryland following the crash.
