DOVER, Del. - Cleanup and recovery efforts are continuing across Dover after an EF-1 tornado tore through the city last week, leaving behind damaged fences, fallen trees and extensive debris.
The National Weather Service has confirmed four tornadoes touched down across Delmarva Thursday night. Officials say there were no reported injuries or deaths resulting from the storms.
Near Silver Lake, large tree limbs and debris remain scattered across the yard of Cathy Crusco and her husband. Crusco said the cleanup is more than they can handle on their own.
"So we have quite a bit of refuse and large limbs and everything in our yard," Crusco said. "Too much for us to clean up."
The City of Dover says there will be no limit on yard waste pickup for the next two weeks as residents work to clear storm debris.
The damage is also evident at Dover Little League, where trees, light poles and other infrastructure were heavily damaged.
Dover resident Edward Sidel visited the field to take pictures and see the destruction firsthand.
"The tops of the trees snapped off the poles that supported the lights," Sidel said. "Those were pretty significant poles that got snapped in half. So I kind of feel like I'm at ground zero here."
Dover Little League said the damage has been devastating, but the organization has been encouraged by the outpouring of support from the community. League leaders say they are working on next steps to ensure the park can eventually become a safe place for children to play again.
Although recovery efforts are underway across the City of Dover, leaders say the road to recovery will take time.
