CRISFIELD, MD.- Crisfield recently got a boost in its efforts to bridge the digital divide. Through a Connected Devices grant awarded by the Office of Statewide Broadband in partnership with the Somerset County Library, the city is set to give out 200 laptops to eligible households.
On December 20, Crisfield residents who meet specific criteria will have the opportunity to get a laptop at the library on 100 Collins Street in Crisfield. The distribution will be done on a first-come, first-served basis.
Laptops will be given out Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The Somerset County Library will be closed from December 22 to December 26.
To be eligible for a laptop, individuals must meet specific qualifications and provide the appropriate documentation as evidence including:
- Proof of residency within the City of Crisfield.
Participation in at least one of the following programs:
- Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
- Medicaid
- Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)
- Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
- Federal Public Housing Assistance (FPHA)
- Veterans Pension and Survivors Benefit
- Receipt of a Federal Pell Grant in the current award year
- Household enrollment in the federal Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP)
- Proof of minimum income - A tax return statement for income verification.
- Automatic eligibility for individuals on Social Security Disability.
Household income at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines:
- Single - $29,160
- Two people - $39,440
- Three people - $49,720
- Four people - $60,000
- Five people - $70,280
- Six people - $80,560
