GEORGETOWN, Del. - Officials say a pet dog died in the fire.

The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company say on Jan. 3, around 10:50 a.m., a fire significantly damaged a home on Wood Branch Road. The Indian River, Millsboro, and Milton fire companies reportedly assisted Georgetown Fire Company with putting out the blaze.

Fire officials say smoke was reported coming from the garage door and chimney area before Georgetown Incident Command identified heavy smoke in the area.

Indian River Fire Company says it appears that a fire may have originated in the garage before extending to the rest of the home, causing significant damage. Some parts of the fire reportedly extended into nearby vehicles that were located on the property as well. Multiple fire suppression attack lines were placed in-service to mitigate the incident.

The Georgetown Fire Chief confirmed that a pet dog died in the fire.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal is investigating this fire.
