SUDLERSVILLE, Md. - The former president of the Sudlersville Town Commission convicted of stealing over $300,000 from the town will now spend over a decade in jail, according to court records.
As WBOC previously reported, former commissioner and commission president Jonathan Keith Griffith was accused of taking the money from Sudlersville’s water and sewer assets after a June 2025 audit reportedly revealed “suspicious banking activity.”
The ensuing investigation by the Queen Anne’s County State’s Attorney’s Office found Griffith had been withdrawing the funds between November 2022 and August 2025. He originally began serving as a commissioner in 2020.
While he originally faced numerous charges, Griffith ultimately pleaded guilty to one felony charge of theft scheme over $100,000 on June 3, 2026.
On Tuesday, July 28, Griffith, 48, was sentenced to 20 years in prison with all but 15 years suspended. Following his sentence, Griffith will also be subject to five years of supervised probation.
Queen Anne’s County Circuit Court Judge Lynn Knight also entered a restitution judgment against Griffith on Tuesday. In total, Griffith has been ordered to pay back $336,881.11, according to court records.
