ADOPTION

GEORGETOWN, DE - In Sussex County today, Brandywine Valley SPCA orchestrated their Winter Mega Adoption event, connecting hundreds of animals with their forever homes ahead of the holidays.

Today, the opportunity to bring home these furry friends came at a reduced adoption fee of $35.

Some dogs made a journey from Texas in hopes of finding their forever homes this weekend thanks to Brandywine's second chance program, which flies animals from partnering shelters to the adoption event.

Tanner Polce from Brandywine Valley SPCA expresses the organization's goal of seeing over 1,000 animals adopted across all locations during the weekend.

“I think it’s really quite amazing. If you look at the history of our mega adoption events, the volume of animals we are able to connect with their forever adopters is just truly amazing.”

Megean Sluter, who adopted a 10-year-old black cat, says there is a special connection when adopting a pet.

“With adoption, it’s a little bit better; you have a chance to come in and meet them. Really, the animal just kind of chooses you; it’s really sweet.”
